Jericho Lands planning program

On Saturday, October 26, 2019, Stanley King and the Co-Design Group facilitated an Artist Workshop at West Point Grey Academy with members of the MST Nations.

The group helped participants visualize their ideas for the future Jericho Lands. The material generated at the workshop will be used to help develop guiding principles and redevelopment concepts for the site.

Since launching the Jericho Lands planning process in March 2019, we've co-hosted a variety of public engagement events providing opportunities for the public to share their aspirations for the future Jericho Lands.

The City project team have been working to summarize the feedback received during phase 1 of the Jericho Lands planning process. Below is a link to a brief two-page public engagement bulletin, which includes information on the engagement process to date and a high-level summary of what we’ve heard so far.

Throughout the summer we hosted a series of pop-up information booths at community events. The Jericho Lands planning team were on hand to present project information, discuss early feedback, and listen to your ideas.

Thanks you to everyone that visited us at Point Grey Fiesta (June 22), Greek Day (June 23), Khatsahlano (July 6), and Vancouver Folk Music Festival (July 20 and 21) and shared your thoughts with the project team.

On June 5, 2019, we co-hosted an Inspire Jericho Talk on the topic of Respect the Land. The third in a series of speaker events, took place at Kitsilano Secondary School Auditorium.

Award-winning landscape designer and author Margie Ruddick talked about the strategies for creating life-enhancing landscapes that combine ecological function with design.

On May 23, 2019, we co-hosted an Inspire Jericho Talk on the topic of Connected Communities. The second in a series of speaker events, took place at UBC Robson Square.

Award-winning urban designer and author Jeff Speck discussed the many benefits of shaping neighbourhoods to support walking, biking, and transit.

On May 3 to 5, 2019, City staff participated in the annual Jane’s Walk festival. Over 130 people joined the discussion on these three guided walks of the Jericho Lands site.

At the March launch events we asked you to share your vision and to help shape the future of the site. The survey closed after two months on April 30, 2019.

Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts. Your input is important to shaping the future of the Jericho Lands and helping us develop principles for the future policy statement. We're now summarizing the feedback and will share the results in the future.

On April 17, 2019, we co-hosted an Inspire Jericho Talks on the topic of Creating Great Neighbourhoods. The first in a series of speaker events took place at Kitsilano Secondary School.

Urbanist and award-winning author Charles Montgomery discussed how we create healthier, happier, and more inclusive communities.

On March 2, 2019, we co-hosted a welcome ceremony and open houses with the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh (MST) Partnership and Canada Lands Company (CLC).

The events signified the launch of a comprehensive planning process to create a policy statement for the Jericho Lands.

We shared an overview of the planning process and roles, City policies and objectives, background information, next steps, and information on the cultural significance of the site, partner profiles, and aspirations of the proponent team. City staff and representatives from the MST Partnership and CLC were also present to answer questions.

We also asked you to share your vision and to help shape the future of the site. Your input will help us develop draft guiding principles for the future policy statement.
