We are exploring walking and public space changes on the West End commercial streets. This is part of our commitment to deliver the West End Community Plan. Changes can improve walkability, strengthen public life and support local businesses on Davie, Robson and Denman streets.

Davie Village: Space for People

In spring 2023, we engaged businesses and the public on their needs and aspirations for the West End commercial streets.

In February 2024, we shared a proposed design with the public for the first time. The public engagement phase for Davie Village: Space for People closed on Thursday, February 29 2024.

We heard broad general support for the proposed design

A total of 1,093 people responded to the Davie Village: Space for People public survey. Most either fully supported the design or liked most elements. We appreciate everyone's feedback, including suggestions for improvement.

Read a summary of what we heard (PDF, 5MB). Alternatively, you can read the full report (PDF, 22MB).

For an overview of the proposed design, visit our interactive webpage.

Where are we now?

The design team is working on detailed technical drawings for this project. The blocks between Jervis Street and Thurlow Street are being designed in detail first. This design process will refine key aspects of the project, like public seating, trees and green infrastructure.

Next steps

Once detailed design is complete, the next stage is awarding a contract for construction work. We will keep the community informed and provide updates as we move closer to construction. Thank you again to everyone who provided feedback during both phases of engagement. Your input has helped us refine the design to better meet community and business needs.

Other West End commercial streets

Davie Village: Space for People is our construction priority in the West End. Further engagement on Robson and Denman streets is anticipated to take place in future years.
