Previous Engagement
In other recent City and Park Board engagements in the East Fraser Lands (EFL, also known as the River District), people shared suggestions for future park amenities in the neighbourhood. These suggestions, along with previous planning, relevant Park Board strategies and technical requirements, helped inform the concepts for the plaza and park. Suggestions included support for:
- Natural areas, habitat, and biodiversity
- Access to riverfront and river
- Design of floodable areas and protection of shoreline against climate change
- Pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths
- Community gathering areas
- Outdoor play features for kids of various ages
- Water feature
- More seating and lighting
Some suggested amenities and park features, such as off-leash dog areas, sport fields and a full playground, would be too big to fit in this area. The off-leash dog areas and sport fields will be considered in other future parks in the neighbourhood. A destination playground is currently being built in south Kinross park, a short walk from the community centre plaza and riverfront park.
