Each year, City staff prepare an annual operating and capital budget for City Council to consider. We want your feedback on where the City should spend tax dollars, and ideas on how to balance the budget, while still maintaining core services and programs to meet the needs of residents and businesses.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the public engagement survey. Your feedback was gathered into an engagement summary [PDF, 20MB] that was shared with City Council as part of their discussion on the 2024 Budget on December 5.
Updates on the 2024 Budget
Although economic activity has increased since the pandemic, there continues to be financial risks and pressures on City services related to inflation and rising costs, which will make 2024 a challenging budget year. On December 12, 2023, City Council has approved the 2024 Operating and Capital Budget, which includes an operating budget of $2.2 billion and capital budget of $367.8 million.
The operating budget reflects an overall tax increase of 7.5%, made up of:
- 1% for additional infrastructure renewal
- 3% for Vancouver Policy Department (VPD) services
- 3.5% for funding across all City services
