May 2024 – Response to Provincial Bill 44: Small-Scale Multi-Unit Housing (SSMUH)

R1-1 is not considered a restricted zone under the new Provincial legislation, so no changes are being proposed for the R1-1 multiplex option. However, City staff are proposing amendments to five restricted zones: RT-7, RT-9, FSD, CD-1 (371), and CD-1 (463). These changes will allow new multiple dwelling (multiplex) and multiple conversion dwellings (MCD) options in these zones to comply with provincial requirements and align with the City's R1-1 zone.

Two reports detailing the proposed zoning amendments will to go to Council on May 28th for referral to a Public Hearing. If the proposals are referred, the Public Hearing date is anticipated to be scheduled for June 13th.

For more information about these changes, please visit the City's Provincial Housing Legislation webpage.
