A painting of the Memorial Square sculpture and a small gathering of people at it's bottom. The background shows green trees and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden.

We want to hear your ideas for redesigning Chinatown Memorial Square and follow up on what we have heard from you in Phase 1 of the public engagement.

Phase 2 of Public Engagement - Exploration

After reviewing your feedback (see Public Engagement Phase 1 Summary Report), we have drafted a vision and set of principles and goals for the project, and would like to share this with you (see them in our presentation). We are also sharing some ideas and seeking feedback on increasing the size of the space.

Your responses will help guide the redesign process and consultant when developing the design options.

Background

Chinatown Memorial Square is located in the heart of Vancouver's Chinatown at the corner of Keefer Street and Columbia Street. This valued public space hosts important community events such as the Remembrance Day ceremony, and draws many visitors to the neighbourhood where they can learn about the contributions of Chinese people in Canada. It also provides a space for community members to honour their culture and traditions.

This project is an important part of Chinatown's living heritage. We want to improve Chinatown Memorial Square as an accessible public space while developing a design that enhances its culture and history.

Please share your ideas with us, and encourage your family and friends to do so too. Your responses will guide the development of values and a vision that will steer the redesign process.
