Thank you for taking our survey and sharing your experiences of local community centres. Your feedback will be used to inform how we invest in community centres, both in the short term and the long term.

Community centres are vital spaces that promote resilient communities by facilitating active living, community connectedness, and fostering citizenship amongst residents of all ages, ability levels, backgrounds, identities, and financial means. Guided by VanPlay's Strategic Bold Moves, the Park Board is developing a citywide strategy to identify priorities for community centre renovations, additions, and renewals.

Community centres are generally jointly operated by Park Board and Community Centre Associations, and typically include amenities like gymnasiums, childcare, and program spaces. They are sometimes co-located with other recreation facilities such as pools, arenas and sports fields that are operated by the Park Board. Some community centres are also co-located with civic facilities operated by others, like schools, childcare centres, libraries, and housing. The Strategy will ensure future community centres projects occur in a strategic and informed manner and that investment decisions meet the needs of a diverse and continuously evolving city.

The Community Centre Strategy will not impact community centre renewal projects that are underway.
